Convert a color between notations

Installs pastel 0.12.0 from the signed catalog (every chunk is verified before it is written), then runs the commands below in the VM's shell.

bash
pastel format hex rebeccapurple
pastel format rgb '#a984f5'
pastel format hsl orange
loading…
Expected output
$ pastel format hex rebeccapurple
#663399
$ pastel format rgb '#a984f5'
rgb(168, 132, 245)
$ pastel format hsl orange
hsl(39, 100.0%, 50.0%)

What it is

pastel parses colors in many notations (names, hex, rgb, hsl, lab) and converts, mixes, lightens, sorts or generates palettes from them. In the browser it is a handy color utility inside docs and design tooling.

Install and run it from your page

With the SDK, installApp resolves pastel in the signed index, fetches its content-addressed chunks from the CDN, verifies each one and writes the files into the VM. Details in Installing catalog apps.

javascript
import { createNano } from "@userland-run/nano-sdk";

const nano = await createNano({ image: { wasm: "/nano/console.wasm" }, ramMB: 512 });
await nano.installApp("pastel"); // signature-verified, cached in OPFS

const r = await nano.shExec("pastel format hex rebeccapurple");
console.log(r.stdout);

Typical usage of the upstream command-line tool:

bash
pastel random | pastel format hex
