What it is

gix is the CLI of gitoxide, a from-scratch Rust implementation of git that focuses on correctness and speed. It can initialise repositories, inspect objects, refs and configuration, and clone over HTTP. Cloning needs network access, which in the browser goes through NanoVM's network bridge and a CORS proxy.

Install and run it from your page

With the SDK, installApp resolves gix in the signed index, fetches its content-addressed chunks from the CDN, verifies each one and writes the files into the VM. Details in Installing catalog apps.

javascript
import { createNano } from "@userland-run/nano-sdk";

const nano = await createNano({ image: { wasm: "/nano/console.wasm" }, ramMB: 512 });
await nano.installApp("gix"); // signature-verified, cached in OPFS

const r = await nano.shExec("gix --version");
console.log(r.stdout);

Typical usage of the upstream command-line tool:

bash
gix clone https://github.com/userland-run/sdk
